May 3rd is a national holiday in Poland as the signing of the first constitution in Europe and only the second in the world is commemorated. It was on May 3rd 1791 that this momentous event happened which caused great changes to the political system in Poland. It resulted in a change from a Parliamentary Monarchy to a Constitutional Monarchy. Peasants were given a certain amount of freedom and the influence of the nobles was limited. It is a very symbolic moment as it proved that when people worked together, courageous decisions could be made. Parades, concerts, historical presentations and other events will take place to mark what is quite a patriotic day in the country.
