Description

The history of salt extraction in the Bochnia region dates back to 3,500 years B.C. Salt was acquired by evaporating water from brine. The Bochnia mine was opened in 1248 and it became a royal facility generating lots of income. Until now, the mine has been the greatest treasure of the region and due to its salt deposits, it has become one of the most important economic facilities. Bochnia is also listed on the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage List. The trip from Krakow to Bochnia takes around 1-hour. Once you get there, you will have a short toilet break and get ready to go underground with your tour guide in your chosen language. During your guided tour, you will have the chance to visit the most beautiful excavation level. The tourist route is composed of the most breathtaking chambers and galleries with unique shapes and geological structures, including the most famous Mysiur Stables and Saint Kinga’s Chapel. Kinga's Chapel is one of the most well-preserved and largest chapels in Bochnia Salt Mine at a depth of 695 feet (212m) below ground. You will have the chance to participate in the underground boat crossing, which is one of the biggest attractions of the Bochnia Salt Mine. The only global crossing by boat through the underground brine chamber takes place in the company of a rafter, colorfully telling about the mysterious recesses of the Bochnia Salt Mine. You will cover a distance of 394 feet (120m) in the flooded brine chamber. The crossing is carried out by a 12-person boat.
