Description
Step into history and cinema on an eco-friendly electric golf cart tour through Krakow's World War II history. This specialized route connects the tragic reality of the Krakow Ghetto with the moving story immortalized in Steven Spielberg's Academy Award-winning film, Schindler's List.
Your journey begins by crossing into the Podgórze district, the site of the wartime ghetto. Your first stop is Ghetto Heroes Square, the central assembly point for deportations, now marked by a powerful monument of empty bronze chairs. On the corner of the square, you will see the Pharmacy under the Eagle, run by Tadeusz Pankiewicz, the only non-Jewish resident allowed in the ghetto. This pharmacy was a real-life sanctuary for resistance and survival, prominently featured in the history of the era.
Next, you will drive into the breathtaking Podgórski Square. Here, the jaw-dropping, neo-Gothic spires of St. Joseph's Church dominate the landscape. This square served as a backdrop for several dramatic scenes in Schindler's List, reflecting the terrifying atmosphere of the Nazi occupation.
Your driver will then guide you to a preserved fragment of the original Krakow Ghetto Wall, built by the occupying forces with ominous rounded top edges resembling tombstones.
As you head into the industrial area of Zabłocie, you will arrive at the main highlight: the exterior of Oskar Schindler’s Enamel Factory. Stand before the historic administrative gates where hundreds of 'Schindler's Jews' came to work, and see the nearby Oskar Schindler’s Villa. Your audio guide will share the gripping details of how Schindler risked everything to save over 1,200 lives.
Finally, the tour stops at the hidden gem of Zabłocie: the Liberator Bomber Mural. This striking piece of street art commemorates the heroic Allied crew of a South African Air Force Liberator plane, which was shot down nearby in 1944 while flying a heroic relief mission during the Warsaw Uprising.
Perfect for history buffs and film enthusiasts alike, this tour provides a deep, unforgettable look into Krakow's darkest days and its greatest stories of human resilience.
