Description
Join a licensed local guide for an insightful visit to Krakow’s Czartoryski Museum, one of Poland’s oldest and most esteemed art institutions. This tour offers a close look at masterpieces of European art, Poland’s royal collections, and the history behind each piece.
Your visit will cover museum highlights ranging from medieval art and royal portraits to Renaissance treasures and important historical artifacts. The centerpiece is Leonardo da Vinci’s Lady with an Ermine, one of only four female portraits by the artist. Your guide will share the story of the Czartoryski family, renowned art collectors whose collection endured wars and exile.
Meet your guide by Krakow’s Barbican, a notable medieval landmark. On the short walk to the museum, learn the background of Krakow’s art heritage and the Czartoryski family's collection history. The tour lasts approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes and includes entrance to the museum.
Unlike busy international galleries, here you can observe da Vinci’s painting closely, appreciating every detail and brushstroke. Your guide will explain the artwork’s symbolism, its survival through wartime, and efforts made to return it to Poland. Additional works by Rembrandt, Jan Matejko, and other masters provide a broader understanding of Krakow’s artistic legacy.
