Description
Your tour begins next to Wawel Castle, where your guide introduces you to the world of Polish monarchy, faith, and art. Inside the Royal Castle you explore grand chambers filled with Renaissance and Baroque interiors, Flemish tapestries, Italian masterpieces, and Wawel’s unique Eastern art collection, including the largest set of Ottoman tents in Europe.
You then enter the Wawel Cathedral, the site of coronations and royal ceremonies. Visit richly decorated chapels, see the mighty Sigismund Bell, and walk through the crypts where Polish kings, queens, poets, and national heroes are laid to rest.
Continuing through the Old Town, you stop by Collegium Maius, the oldest building of the Jagiellonian University. In its quiet courtyard your guide shares stories of the scholars who shaped European science and knowledge, including Nicolaus Copernicus.
The route leads to the Main Market Square, Europe’s largest medieval square. Here your guide presents the history of the iconic Cloth Hall, once a thriving center of international trade connecting Kraków with markets across the continent.
Next, step inside St. Mary’s Basilica, home to the magnificent Veit Stoss altarpiece—one of the greatest Gothic artworks in Europe. Surrounded by stained glass and painted vaults, you learn how this masterpiece survived centuries of conflict and remains a symbol of Kraków’s devotion and artistry.
Your tour concludes in the Rynek Underground Museum, where multimedia displays, archaeological remains, and reconstructed medieval streets reveal the vibrant life of Kraków’s early traders and craftsmen. As you emerge back onto the square, the city’s historic heart feels transformed by the hidden stories discovered beneath your feet.
