Description
Modern history of Poland cannot be told without diving into the chronicles of Kazimierz and the Jewish Ghetto in Krakow. On this tour you will discover the most important Jewish heritage sites in Krakow and explore the turbulent history of Jewish people from the Middle Ages, through World War II, to the present day. Discover the Jewish side of Polish history. The 2-hour option is a walking tour of Kazimierz and the former Jewish Ghetto in Krakow. For centuries, Kazimierz was a place of coexistence and intermingling of ethnic Polish and Jewish cultures. Your Private Guide will tell you about the peaceful life in this district before the German occupation of Poland, and how it changed during and after the war. You will see the Tempel Synagogue and the Remuh Synagogue, then follow the historic Szeroka street, which features old Jewish houses, restaurants and other establishments, to the Old Synagogue and the Jewish Square. You will then head to the Podgórze district, where the Nazis established the Krakow Ghetto for Jewish people before their forced deportation to Auschwitz-Birkenau and other concentration camps. See the monument at the Ghetto Heroes Square and Oskar Schindler's Enamel Factory, and hear the true story of the events and people that inspired Steven Spielberg’s film Schindler's List. Book our extended 3-hour walking tour of Kazimierz and the former Jewish Ghetto in Krakow to visit 1 Synagogue. This option includes tickets to the 19th-century Tempel Synagogue, which is known for its beautiful Moorish-style interior, or the restored Old Synagogue from the 15th century, which now houses a museum of Krakow Jewish culture & history. Whichever one you visit (depending on your preferences and the synagogue's opening hours), you will gain an insight into Jewish history, culture and customs. Choose the 4-hour tour to enrich your experience with a visit to the Remah Synagogue and the Old Jewish Cemetery. The Remah Synagogue is an active place of worship and plays an important role in protecting the heritage of Polish Jews. You will notice that the courtyard walls carry inscriptions in memory of the local Jews who perished in the Holocaust. At the Old Jewish Cemetery, you will find gravesites of many notable Polish Jews, including Rabbi Moses Isserles, Avraham Yehoshua Heschel and Yossele the Holy Miser.Includes
