Description
Since 1937 Annual Nativity Scenes Competition was held in Krakow. The event takes place in December and everyone can take part: it is enough to bring a handmade nativity scene. Hundreds of people, old and young, professionals and amatours, take part in it every year and their amazing masterpieces are later are exhibited in the Krakow Historical museum.
Works of Kraków's nativity scene makers are unique because they are inspired by Kraków architecture, culture and history. Baby Jesus is not lying in a stable but in Kraków's church and is surrounded not only by shepparda but also by the most prominent citizens of Kraków and historical figures.
Those Nativity Scenes are not only beautiful but they are a great source of knowledge about Kraków and Poland. This information is hidden in symbols that we will decipher during our walk.
We will walk along the streets of the Old Town of Kraków to find nativity scenes from previous years displayed outdoors. When you get cold we will warm up drinking mulled wine in one of the most iconic cafes in Kraków. During the break I will tell you which Nobel Prize winner used to spend time there and why this is the most Krakow style place in the Old Town.
During this tour you will not only discover the most interesting parts of Kraków Old Town, but you will also learn about Polish Christmas traditions. Over a cup of aromatic hot chocolate we will talk about life in Poland not only during the holidays but also on a daily basis and you will have chance to ask questions about my beutiful city.
