Description

Walking with a guide through the streets of the Old Town, visit the old academic district, see the remains of the former defensive walls and find beautiful decorations on the walls of churches and tenement houses. As you approach the Market Square, you can see from a distance two asymmetrical towers of different heights of the famous St. Mary's Church, a temple with an 800-year history. Its higher tower is 82 meters high and from it a trumpeter plays the famous St. Mary's Bugle Call every hour. The melody stops mid-note because, according to legend, a medieval bugler noticed enemies approaching the city and started playing the alarm. Step inside St. Mary's Church and find historic stalls of wealthy townspeople, richly decorated vaults, stained glass windows and a treasury full of richly decorated objects and liturgical vestments. The largest monument, however, is the wooden altar dating from from the 15th century. It featured 200 realistically carved human figures and was created by the German master Veit Stoss. It is worth asking the guide about the rings and the lantern placed on the church wall, finding out where the line of life and death ran and where to throw a coin to return to Krakow one day.
