Description
There were times, throughout most recent history when Krakow did not seem all that multicultural and diverse. This tour will demonstrate how multicultural and diverse Krakow and Poland used to be in the past and what happened in Poland to have transformed our country into what it looks like these days. Did you know that in the 16th century most of the world's Jewish population lived in Poland (around 75%)? Poland is very significant in the history of the world's Jews. Let me take you on an informative journey through the history of Jewish people in Poland. We started doing this tour as it is impossible to separate the lives and the history of Jews and Christians in Krakow. Kazimierz these days is referred to as a Jewish District however over many centuries it was a place of coexistence of both of these cultures. Find out where their history began back in the 11th century and why Jewish people ever chose the country of Poland for their settlements. The Itinerary for this experience is as follows however if you have other ideas don’t be shy to let us know! - Kazimierz's Main Square - Miodowa Street (The city walls of the city of Kazimierz) - The Tempel Synagogue - The Kupa Synagogue - The Izaak’s Synagogue - The oldest building inside of the Jewish Quarter from the 1400s - The Mikveh a ritual Jewish cleansing/bath house for females from the 16th century. - Szeroka Street - Helena Rubinstein’s birth place - The Nissenbaum Family Foundation monument - The statue of a man who tried to stop the Holocaust - The Remuh Synagogue and the Jewish Cemetery - Popper's Synagogue - The Old Synagogue - Numerous filming locations of the Schindler’s List.
