Etnika
Krakow
In a quiet leafy street only a couple of minutes' walk from the main railway station, and only a little further from the Main Square, is Etnika, a discreetly modern and comfortable restaurant that delights in offering refreshing interpretations of well-known dishes from around the world.
Two modest rooms - one on the ground floor with abundant natural light, and one below, which although larger is paradoxically cosier - are complemented by some very pleasant pavement seating for outdoor dining. This unassuming décor is the perfect setting for what is not only a very diverse and tasty menu, but one that is very reasonably priced as well.
Soups include a particularly hearty Mediterranean style fish soup. Salads are refreshing and tasty, with flavour as important as appearance. Starters include chicken livers in tokay, steak tartare and grilled camembert with cranberries. Main courses range from Salmon and halibut, via roasted duck breast with orange or cherry sauce, entrecote steak and grilled chicken, to some tasty vegetarian dishes and a novel twist on the classic beefburger. There is also a seasonal menu, supplemented from time to time by further daily specials at the chef's whim.
A choice of excellent coffees and regional craft beers, plus its casual and welcoming atmosphere, makes Etnika a great place to hang out. There's plenty to amuse kids as well, with cartoons, board games and books. Not only that, but if you're too lazy to make your way there, you can order food to be delivered direct from their website. All in all, there's a lot to recommend.
