Description
From Krakow’s Former Ghetto to Auschwitz-Birkenau
This full-day experience connects two places often visited separately: Krakow’s former Ghetto and the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial. Beginning in Podgórze helps you understand the policies of isolation, persecution, deportation, and survival before travelling to Auschwitz I and Auschwitz II-Birkenau.
Your day begins in the former Krakow Ghetto area, near St. Joseph’s Church and Ghetto Heroes Square. With your guide, you will see places connected to the wartime history of Podgórze, including the ghetto wall area and Eagle Pharmacy when it is open. This introduction gives important context before the visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau.
After the Ghetto visit, travel from Krakow to Oświęcim by organized transfer. Along the way, your tour team will help you prepare for the visit and explain the entry process, security rules, and schedule.
At Auschwitz I, join an official Museum-guided visit. Walk through the preserved camp area, see the “Arbeit Macht Frei” gate, former prisoner blocks, historical exhibitions, documents, and personal belongings that help tell the stories of those imprisoned and murdered there.
The visit continues at Auschwitz II-Birkenau, where the scale of the camp becomes clear. See the railway tracks, unloading area, rows of barracks, and the remains of gas chambers and crematoria. Your guide will explain how this part of the camp functioned and why it remains one of the most important memorial sites in the world.
After the visit, return to Krakow by organized transfer.
This tour is designed to be respectful, well-organized, and historically connected from start to finish.
