Description

The tour starts in Krakow, with options for pickup from three meeting points or directly from your hotel or apartment. The drive to Auschwitz takes approximately 45 minutes, during which a documentary about the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau is shown to provide historical context.

Upon arrival, the tour leader explains essential rules and procedures of the Auschwitz Museum. After a short break, the group enters the museum using a skip-the-line route to begin the guided visit.

The museum is split into two parts: Auschwitz I and Auschwitz II-Birkenau.

Auschwitz I was the site of the first men’s and women’s camp, where early experiments with Zyklon B took place. It housed the first mass transports of Jews and political prisoners, the central camp prison (Block 11), and the main camp commandant’s office. Executions by shooting and other atrocities occurred here.

After the Auschwitz I visit, there is a short break before transportation to Birkenau, the second part of the museum.

Birkenau was the largest camp, covering nearly 200 hectares, with close to 300 barracks and facilities for mass extermination. Approximately one million Jews were murdered there. The camp housed over 100,000 prisoners in 1944, including Jews, Poles, Roma, and others. Visitors can see ruins of gas chambers, prisoner barracks, and kilometers of fencing and roads.

When the guided tour ends, there is a final break before the group returns safely to Krakow.
