Description
Discover the harrowing history of the Nazis' largest concentration camp before visiting one of the world's oldest salt mines, operating from the 13th century right up until 2007
You'll be transferred from your Krakow accommodation to Auschwitz-Birkenau, a complex of the former concentration and extermination camps that stands today as a monument to the horrors perpetrated by Adolf Hitler's Third Reich. Founded on 27th April 1940, the camp became the site of 1.1 million deaths before the end of World War II.
The day's second tour is of Wieliczka Salt Mine, descending 380 steps to its first level 210 feet (64 meters) below ground. Hear the mysteries of the mine and the stories of the people who worked there, as well as the powers of nature that have ruled over it. Explore the mine's 20 chambers, including St. Kinga's Chapel – an enchanting, underground cathedral carved entirely from rock salt.
