Description
Step back in time with a visit to the Archaeological Museum in Krakow, the oldest institution of its kind in Poland. Founded in 1850 as the Museum of Antiquities, it houses a vast collection of archaeological finds, including the most valuable object in the museum - the statue of Światowid from Zbrucz, dated to the ninth or tenth century.
Discover a treasure trove of ancient discoveries deeply tied to the history of the area and the local metallurgical plant. It all began in 1949 when construction unearthed a wealth of archaeological wonders. In 1950, the Ministry of Culture and Art officially established the Management of Excavation Works in Nowa Huta. Over the years, the museum has shifted locations within the district, finally settling down in the charming Kraków Branice area.
Explore the 'Archaeologists for Nowa Huta' exhibition, located within the scenic manor and park complex. Interactive boards and screens narrate the fascinating history of the museum, the ancient tales of the Nowa Huta region, and showcase a stunning collection of photographs from the last seven decades.
