Description

Visit the Schindler Factory Museum in Krakow, housed in the historic Enamel Factory, where Oskar Schindler employed Jewish workers during World War II. Schindler, a German entrepreneur, is well known for saving over a thousand Jews from extermination camps, primarily thanks to Steven Spielberg's film. Schindler took over the factory in 1939, transformed it into the Deutsche Emailwarenfabrik (DEF), and produced enamelware and later also arms production there. However, it is not Schindler nor the history of the factory that the permanent exhibition, 'Krakow – the Occupation Period 1939–1945,' is dedicated to. This modern exhibition goes beyond traditional museum displays, offering a theatrical and cinematic experience that tells the story of the city, its inhabitants, and the Nazi occupiers. Explore an exhibition that allows you to better understand the tragedy of the Holocaust and learn about the lives of ordinary residents of an ordinary city facing war and occupation. A historic site, extraordinary artifacts, and an engaging way of telling a challenging story – thanks to these attributes, the Krakow Museum welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors from around the world every year.
