Exceeded expectations! I had heard about this place on the internet, so we had to come and try it for ourselves—and it did not disappoint! Hands down, some of the best food we’ve ever had, and the dessert was honestly on another level (never had anything quite like it!). The Negroni was a bit too strong for our personal taste, but cocktail lovers might appreciate it. Top it all off with super lovely service. Highly recommend!
I chose Trattoria Mamma Mia after reading its excellent Google Maps reviews and browsing the photos. I stopped by for lunch with fairly high expectations. Unfortunately, my first impression wasn’t a great one. Although the restaurant was only around 70% occupied during lunch service, I was immediately directed to what felt like the least desirable table in the restaurant—a tiny table pushed against the bar wall. Even after politely asking whether I could sit at another available table, my request was declined. Dining alone often means getting the worst table in the house, and this was one of those occasions. Normally, I would simply leave and find another restaurant. This time, however, I was hungry and didn’t feel like starting the search all over again. The atmosphere itself is pleasant but fairly ordinary. The small courtyard at the entrance looks charming in the photos, but in reality it’s simply a modest building courtyard rather than a destination for a memorable evening. If you’re planning a special dinner, I think there are much better options in Kraków. I ordered a pizza, which was genuinely good. It was well prepared, tasty, and exactly what I expected. That said, it’s the kind of pizza you can find in many good Italian restaurants across Europe—it wasn’t particularly memorable. Overall, this was a perfectly acceptable lunch, but nothing more. I came because of the excellent reviews, experienced it for myself, and I’m glad I did. Would I return? Probably not. Kraków has far too many excellent restaurants to justify coming back here.
I saw this place on TikTok and absolutely had to try when in Krakow. The staff were lovely, the food was amazing and I couldn’t recommend this place more. We asked to be seated outside and although it was cold they had fire lamps on which made it comfortable and the fairy lights added to it. This place is beautiful and I would visit Krakow again just to come back here!
I finally visited Trattoria Mamma Mia after hearing about it everywhere on social media and from many people around me. I actually wanted to try it already last year, but because of the popularity and long queues we gave up at the time. This year, for my birthday, I reserved a table and was invited there, and honestly it fully lived up to the expectations. First of all, I really liked the atmosphere of the place. The inside feels warm and cozy, and even the small terrace outside is cute and romantic. The food was excellent from start to finish. The soup, the pasta, and the risotto were all very enjoyable. One thing that really stood out to me was the focaccia with garlic. I usually do not like very thick focaccia dough, but when restaurants make it thin it can sometimes become dry and cracker-like. Here it was perfectly balanced, thin but still super soft, with the taste of fresh garlic coming through beautifully. It was honestly amazing. I also loved the main dishes because even though the recipes seem simple, you can still clearly taste every ingredient individually. For example, in the prawn pasta sauce, the prawns still had their own strong flavor and were not hidden behind the tomato sauce. For me, that is what makes simple food truly great. When there are fewer ingredients, each one has to stand out and be treated properly. The service also deserves a special mention. Big compliments to the waiter with the nice beard who served us, he was incredibly kind, attentive, and everything arrived surprisingly quickly. Honestly, I have waited longer in major fast food chains than here. For a restaurant this busy, that level of organization is impressive. The portions were also more than fair. Sometimes dishes can look small in photos online, but in reality the quantities were very satisfying. What I appreciated most about this restaurant is that it simply gets all the basics perfectly right. It may not necessarily be my absolute favorite restaurant ever, but unlike some places that shine in one area while disappointing in another, here everything was exactly as it should be, good food, great service, pleasant atmosphere, fair portions, and efficient organization. I absolutely recommend it.
Believe the hype. The food here is insane! If you’re looking for a classy and affordable place to have a nice evening meal or lunch come to Mama Mia. There’s a cute courtyard to sit outside or a beautiful restaurant. You have to try the lasagne it is out of this world and so incredibly tasty. After seeing this on TikTok we were dubious to believe it was worth the hype, but it really is and more. A must do if you come to Krakow.
