Food and People Pastrami Deli
Walk in and you see a large, airy, modern space with canteen-style chairs and tables occupying the central portion, while sofas and coffee tables are dotted round the outside. A “baby-football” table and brightly coloured beanbags denote both the children’s play area and the location of the TV projector screen. At one end is a large glass counter where you order (and collect) your food and drink.
Effectively, the menu divides into three: a daily “workers” lunch consisting of soup and a main for 15 zł (and earlier breakfast for an unbelievable 4 zł); the pastrami menu which, in addition to the classic New York sandwiches, offers various other interpretations (pastrami Caesar salad, pastrami burger and fries); and the Food & People menu, which is all about premium speciality sandwiches such as whiskey-soaked BBQ ribs or duck with orange. Authentic and delicious New York cheesecake is one dessert option, and there is a straightforward kids’ menu, too.
Czech beer, a choice of wines including sparkling Prosecco, a large variety of soft drinks and all at very reasonable prices take care of your thirst. Special offers include beer for 4 zł with any sandwich after 7 pm and, bearing in mind Champions League and English Premier League matches are shown on the big screen, this is a great place for a civilised sporting get-together. Sliding glass screens allow one section to be partially isolated, making it ideal for informal business meetings as well. Comfortable and child-friendly, Pastrami Deli is a welcome addition to the Krakow restaurant scene.
